Making The “Jump”

Today, I’m making the jump.

For years I told myself I needed a parachute first.

I was completely wrong.

Ultra-Running

Ultramarathoners don’t blaze through 100-mile races.(Not even Goggins) They jog. They walk. They pause to catch their breath. Some even crawl across the finish line.

Stacking Days

1 year ago I made a massive commitment unlike anything I’ve ever tried.

Doing something every single day for an entire year.

The 2024 goal: 50 pushups and 50 squats every day.

Don’t Do It For The Gram

We often admire the glamour of others’ work. But, we miss the deep value and impact it brings them.

Take podcasting, for example.

Truth Bombs

I learned some hard truths about achieving goals while publishing my 3rd children’s book.

7 Year Journey

Today, I’m celebrating 7 years of the Just Get Started podcast!

Here are 7 truths I’ve uncovered from the journey…

Failure Is The Option

Want the ultimate life hack to learn how to do something right?

Do it wrong first.

Change Management

Change starts with a simple question, “Is this the best version of myself I’ll ever be?”

If you’re not satisfied with the answer, it’s time to start committing to a change.

Greatness

The greatest mistake people make is believing that if they aren’t good at something they shouldn’t start.

That’s literally the only way you get better.

Paul Bunyan

How do you cut down an entire forest?

One swing of the axe, repeated thousands of times.

It’s so simple, it’s stupid.

But we overthink it.

Call Me Maybe

Stop using the word MAYBE

It’s negative.

Terrible

I spoke with a family member who said, “I’m not good at writing so I shouldn’t even bother.”

It was clear they had two choices.

The Hard Thing About Hard Things

When we think of success we often think of an accomplishment that was hard to achieve.

We fail to define what “hard” means.

Never Have I Ever

I’ve never built a 7-figure business

I’ve never built a company to an “exit”

I’ve never built a massive “following” online

Some wonderful people could help you do those things but that’s not me, yet.

Action To Start

My Just Get Started mission is not simply about starting. It’s about the action it takes to start now.

The “just” is intentional.

So Simple

People ask me all the time how I’ve gotten to interview so many incredible people on the Just Get Started podcast.

The answer is simpler than they want to hear.

Zero

Everybody starts at zero.

Some never start.

Some think about starting.

Some put a plan together to start.

Some tell people they are going to start.

And some just start.

The differences can be subtle but the action to just start creates monumental energy forward.

Numbers Game

It’s never about the total number.

It’s about the culmination of the attempts.

Swing the bat

Shoot the shot

Take a big leap

It’s In The Practice

So far, I’ve written 19,000 words of my book that I plan on launching in 2025.

But I didn’t write them all today.

Nor this week.

Nor this month.

Easy A

It shouldn’t be easy.

Easy is lazy. Easy is the quickest way to the bottom.

Everyone that is asking for easy is saying “I’m not willing to put in the work to make this successful”.

John G.

When you’re feeling like a failure, remember John Grisham.

He wrote his first novel, A Time To Kill, over 3 years only to be rejected by 28 publishers before garnering a meager $5,000 print deal with an unknown publisher, Wynwood Press.

6450

Could you do 6,450 pushups today?

That’d be a lot, right?

The Secret

Want Happiness?

There are 4 things you need to take control of.

PGA Pro

Where were you 16 years ago?

Do you ponder how you got from there to here?

Ant-Man

My son’s bedtime is 8 pm. Tech off, brush your teeth and start reading…

…but

There are times for an exception to the rule.

2 & 1

As a parent, we must adapt our parenting style often as our kids grow because we can’t possibly know what lies ahead. We have to be malleable and open to change.

However, there is one thing I’ve remained committed to since my son was born.

Ask

Remember, you can ask the world for what you want

…or you can sit in silence.

Show Up

11 people showed up at CrossFit today.

Some lifted heavy, some did lighter

Some went fast and some went slow

Some modified the prescribed movements

Action Jackson

Do you want to start?

——> Create action

That creates your mood.

Don’t wait for “the right time” or for “motivation”

——> Create the time

Fake It

We must stop using “fake it til you make it.”

Catchy phrasing, wrong mindset.

We aren’t “faking” anything

Lucky 7s

It’s crazy to think I am in year 7 of the Just Get Started Podcast. It’s single-handedly the longest thing I’ve done in my life.

Wild!

If I only was able to provide one lesson from doing it it’d be this…

Combining Resources

The best relationships in life have one clear thing in common.

There is a complimentary toolset that each person brings on the journey.

No one person is better than the other. Sometimes the tools one person has will be used and other times it’ll be the opposite. Oftentimes, the tools will work together to create something useful and generous.

Flexibility February and What I Learned

This new One Mic Session is a recap of Month 2 of my Dozen Months of Discovery in 2020 where I chose to complete 1-Hour of Stretching every single day in the month of February.
